About the By-Election

๐Ÿ“Œ Why is this by-election being held?

The Stafford electorate's seat in the Queensland Legislative Assembly became vacant following the death of Jimmy Sullivan MP on 9 April 2026. Under Queensland electoral law, a by-election must be held to elect a replacement Member.

๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ How to Vote

Queensland uses optional preferential voting for state elections. When you receive your ballot paper:

  • Mark "1" in the box next to your first choice candidate.
  • You may then continue numbering other candidates in order of preference (2, 3, 4โ€ฆ). This is optional.
  • Do not use ticks, crosses, or write any other marks.
  • Your ballot paper is secret โ€” no one will know how you voted.
