๐Ÿ—ณ๏ธ How Optional Preferential Voting Works

Queensland uses optional preferential voting. You must put a "1" in at least one box. You may โ€” but do not have to โ€” continue numbering other candidates in your order of preference.

Sample Ballot Paper ยท Stafford Electorate ยท 2026

1

Write "1" for your first choice

Mark the number 1 in the box next to the candidate you most prefer. This is the only number you must write.

2

You must number all remaining candidates

You must continue numbering other candidates 2, 3, 4... in your preferred order.

3

Do not use ticks or crosses

Only use numbers. Ticks, crosses or any other marks may make your vote informal (not counted).

4

Fold and place in the ballot box

Fold your ballot paper so your vote is hidden, then place it in the official ballot box provided at the polling booth.
